Letter 1: Of Moving-In and Awesome Keychains

Dear Prince Charming,
Today was one of the biggest days of my life for three simple reasons.

Reason number one: I moved into my dorm today. I know, I bet you're thinking that dorms are a million times less glamorous than whatever kind of castle you live in but really what this means is: I'm officially on my own.
I'd like to pretend that means I have less rules than I have back home but that's totally the reverse. Here there's a stricter curfew and I have a roommate which is very different than having a kid sister across the hall. But whatever. I'll get over it.
The important part is: I'm officially an adult. Well, as soon as I can get people to stop looking at me like I'm a kid-freshman. Because I'm totally not one of those screamy-annoying girls. When I'm really excited, the sound actually gets stuck in my throat so I don't make any noise at all. Which looks weird but doesn't give anyone a headache. So I should get points for that.

Number two: I'm going to get along with my roommates, I can just tell! They are super nice and not at all the Barbie-types I thought I'd end up with. I mean, what else was I supposed to expect with names like Stephanie, Sarah, and Samantha? But really, they're all down-to-earth girls and they don't even know each other, so that's a relief. One of them is even from out-of-state, like me. I think we're going to be the best of friends so I was a little disappointed when I found out she was in the other room. But oh well. I'm sure I'll get along with Samantha just the same.

And lastly but most importantly: I'm almost positive I met you today.
You're one of Stephanie's friends, the other girl from out-of-state. You helped move her in and then you came and helped me with some of my boxes. You seemed nice enough and then you noticed my Conan Edogowa keychain. And you recognized it. I started screaming (Silently, of course.) You raised your eyebrow at me, then smiled. After that, you left to help Stephanie with something but that connection was made. Not everyone is nerdy enough to know about the coolest Anime ever. But you did. And I know, maybe I shouldn't have such a keychain and out myself so quickly as a nerd, but maybe it's not such a bad thing after all. If you noticed it, it can only be a good thing.

Yours,
Elizabeth Ryan
